I know many of us entrepreneurs struggle with the challenges of being a one or two “woman” band in the early stages and perhaps, the middle stages of our businesses. One minute we are the service provider, the next we are accounts receivable—a never-ending lineup of hats to wear. Even with all the fullness in our roles, a very important aspect of client and audience engagement in our businesses is still email marketing. Many of us want to lean more and more into social media and forego the writing and production of our own newsletters and blogs, but I would caution us to stay the course in our email communications and build our own databases. Our contacts on social media are not really ours, they belong to the platform where they are housed. Our databases are our own and nurturing a direct line of consistent communication with our audience and clients is very important.
The word consistent is bolded here for a reason. Consistency is often difficult for time-challenged entrepreneurs and also for creative leaders. Many of us on the creative side of business enjoy the art of invention rather than the science of repetition. I am working on strengthening the muscle of consistency in my own business and you can, too.
One of the ways I decided to do this was to work on branding my newsletter. Coming up with a fun and clever name, plus a new logo design, has helped to spark and foster more consistent focus and engagement on my part. I also decided to bring together content and news from both of my businesses, AB Coaching and Consulting and 11Locust an interior and garden styling company I just launched last year. It feels more like a win-win for me and hopefully for my readers with it all under one umbrella and a little something of interest for everyone.
My newsletter is called Flaire by Allison Berardi – I created a new word Flaire by combining the two definitions of Flare and Flair below…
